Models and Philiosophy

The main focus of my work is making new violins, violas and cellos in the form of an antique copy according to the customer’s wishes, following special criteria based on historical models of old masters and my personal approach.

The uncompromising selection of woods, building techniques and scientific methods combined with traditional craftsmanship lead to instruments of the highest tonal quality.

Form and sound concepts of the old masters’ work still set the standards for today’s classical concert use, against which modern new instruments must measure themselves. This aim builds the foundation for my own models. I believe that only the interaction of art and science gives birth to a solution which brings out the characteristics of historical instruments for current concert use.

Especially in the last three decades, modern violin making has evolved. With the help of scientific analysis, incorporating centuries of tradition and craftsmanship, instruments are created that are acoustically, haptically and visually comparable – even in a double-blind test – and meet all the requirements of today’s musicians.

The privilege of sound perfection of historical instruments is thus no longer reserved for the past, but can also be found in new instruments.

Violin Zéro

It takes about 250-400 hours – depending on the type of instrument – to build an instrument, therefore only a handful of instruments are created a year. I keep a waiting list, but there are usually a few instruments available for you to try out in the studio.

In addition to new instruments, there is also the possibility of optimizing the sound of historical instruments and selected manufactory instruments of good origin. Here, the price / performance ratio is particularly interesting for young musicians in training.

In this way, existing instruments made of good woods can also be transformed into good alternatives through tonal processing, closing the gap between school and professional instruments. The range is completed by high-quality, historical instruments that are available in my studio from time to time.

Order Requests

The majority of my instruments consist of individual, made-to-measure orders, which allow to determine essential characteristics and to choose within the framework of what makes sense technically and tonally.

Some other instruments are created freely according to my personal ideas and are available for testing until they find a new owner. If you are interested in a new instrument from my workshop, I look forward to your visit.

An intensively played instrument needs good care and maintenance. After the purchase of an instrument I will remain at your disposal for all questions and matters concerning your instrument.

Purchase and Financing

I maintain a waiting list for commissioned instruments. If you decide to commission me, I will let you know up to date how long it is expected to take to complete.

After a down payment, I will start work and report to you on the progress of the work. Upon completion, you will have a test period to evaluate the instrument. Finally, you decide if the new instrument will be yours – only then the remaining purchase price will be due. With this guarantee I ensure that you receive an instrument that is optimal for you and that meets your expectations – not only mine.

For professional musicians, but also for private buyers, an installment plan or financing may also be of interest for tax reasons, which I can also offer in individual cases.

I will be happy to provide you with current price information and further details in a personal conversation.
